One year with my Nintendo 3DS

The 3DS has now been out for one year. So I thought I would give a recap of my year with the 3DS. I preordered the 3DS and got it first thing on launch day. I also purchased Street Fighter 4 on launch day. Overall I was impressed with the console...for a few days. Then came the weeks after, in which hardly any new games came out. My next game purchase was Splinter Cell 3D...which sucked. Then I eventually got The Legend of Zelda O.o.T and Madden Football 3D...and Madden Sucked. After that I got 0 new games. There was just nothing out there that I wanted. Plus all the games I was looking forward to were either pushed back or cancelled.

At Christmas time I did but Mario Land 3D. It is fun but I haven't played it much yet. Finally in February a great game came out, Resident Evil Revelations. This is hands down the best 3DS game I have played. Overall I would say that my 1st year with the 3DS was a bad experience. 2012 looks to have some more great games on the way. Hopefully Nintendo and Publishers can step their game up.

ShadowGun Xperia Play Review

ShadowGun by MadFinger games, is one of the best looking games on any mobile device. It uses the Unity3D engine and it really impresses. I can't give this game enough praise. ShadowGun looks and plays very similar to Gears of War. If you've played Gears then you know what to expect. Also the game has some pretty good voice actors, which is uncommon for most mobile games.

Think he's compensating for something?
If you're using the Xperia Play the game supports the slide out controller. Everything plays smooth and you shouldn't have any trouble playing through the entire game. If your using any other phone or tablet the on screen buttons work pretty well. I did have a little difficulty aiming, but after you play a few levels you'll get the hang of it. So either way you're covered.

Let's be honest we don't play 3rd Person Shooters for the story. We play so we can shoot and blow up stuff. Now it is nice if a game has a coherent story, but it's not mandatory. Fortunately ShadowGun has a pretty decent and straight forward story. You play a bounty hunter, and your there to get your bounty...enough said about that.

What's even better is how MadFinger games has released a new and free update. The update takes place after the main game, so the story continues. It adds new levels and a new weapon. It's nice when a developer continues to support a game even after they've made their money.

If you're looking for an awesome shooter then buy ShadowGun. It will not disappoint you in any way. It's honestly as good as the average console game, and a fraction of the price. In the words of Plex the Magic Robot. Try it...You'll like it!

The Dead: Chapter One for Android

If your looking for a good zombie shooter, than look no more. The Dead: Chapter One is a free zombie FPS. The Dead puts you against waves of zombies. Kill them all and repeat again and again...until you die. I'm running this on my Xperia Play and the game is fully optimized for the slide out controller. The graphics while being suitable, aren't going to wow you. They are very outdated, but considering it's free that doesn't matter. Give it a try and see what you think

Tablet Gaming

Tablets are becoming more of an everyday product. Sales of tablets are higher than ever and will keep growing in the future. The question on my mind is how will tablets affect the future of the gaming industry. The next generation of consoles will probably be released over the next 2 years. By the time that happens more tablets will be sold and will likely cut into that market.

Right now a lot of tablets have HDMI outs and are capable of running HD games. Add a blue tooth or USB controller and you have a game system. Gamestop is actually selling gaming tablets now. Which come preloaded with a hand full of games.

What makes this even better is the price of these games. The average game on a tablet runs from free to $7. The average console game is $60. Plenty of people would still argue that tablet games are cheap knock off games. BUT with games like Grand Theft Auto 3, Shadow Gun, Dead Space, Infinity Blade, Mass Effect,  Real Racing and Modern Combat that statement can't be backed up. There are thousands of games at your fingertips with a tablet. Even if only 10% are high quality games that is still a few hundred games.

So will tablet gaming kill the next generation of gaming platforms? If the next gen consoles don't offer something new and inventive then yes it's very possible.
